Advice

The timeless charm of a fire burning inside a wood-burning fireplace always manages to create a unique, warm and cosy atmosphere in the home. In addition to being a furnishing and socialising element, it has the great advantage of efficiently heating the room and saving on electricity.

That's why you may have decided you want a fireplace, but don't know where to put it. Or maybe you already have one, but you want to completely renovate your home and want advice on what is the best location for it, or how to build your new nest around it to make it as cosy and functional as possible. Or maybe you have decided on the living room as the room of choice for your future fireplace, but you want someone to confirm that this is the best choice and what details to take into account.
That is what we are here for. Whatever your doubts about fireplaces, placements and rooms, in this article we explain why, in our opinion, wood-burning fireplaces are the perfect choice for your living room.

AS ALWAYS, LET'S START WITH THE BASICS. WHAT IS A CHIMNEY?

The fireplace is the oldest home heating method in history. That's right. In any castle, fortress or dwelling of the past, when one could, one tried to make room for a fireplace, sometimes even in every room. Traditionally, the fireplace is fuelled by wood, but there are also pellet fireplaces. In any case, we are always talking about wood biomass.

Today, there are a wide variety of fireplaces on the market. There is something for everyone. The operation, however, remains the same. Understanding how a chimney works is impossible without first understanding how a flue works. A chimney connection is in fact always necessary when installing any biomass product to ensure proper evacuation of the fumes resulting from combustion.

A fireplace will warm the room and the house in which it is placed, diffusing a good smell of wood and the relaxing sound of its crackling into the room. A perfect convivial atmosphere. minimal waste and ash and an 'automatic' switch-off. Unlike a pellet stove, in fact, a wood-burning fireplace simply switches off when the wood has finished burning. Easier than that!

SOME SUGGESTIONS

The fireplace, therefore, is a structural element of our home, which must be given the necessary space and constant maintenance to allow it to function perfectly and last a long time. Always entrust professionals with the choice of the most suitable model for your needs and the configuration of your home, as well as for installation and regular maintenance. Ask yourself what the perfect size is for your home and family, consider what style you want it in and how to integrate it with the rest of your décor. In addition, always choose wood of certified quality for proper operation and optimal combustion.
Now that we have made this preamble, let us finally get to the point.

FIREPLACE IN THE LIVING ROOM: ADVANTAGES

A wood-burning fireplace has many advantages. It is wood-fuelled, hence biomass-fuelled, hence sustainable. It saves you money on your bills. Above all, however, in this article we want to analyse not the material advantages of a heating system such as the fireplace but those that concern human warmth, the atmosphere it manages to create, its aggregative power. The fireplace, in fact, is not only for heating the room but also represents a real meeting point for relatives and friends, a warm comfort to spend the winter in company, in front of the fire. It has always had a social and family function.

If you want this social and family function to be pre-eminent, or if you plan to populate your fireplace by inviting friends and relatives to your home, what better place than the living room, a social room par excellence, a place for relaxation, chatting, drinking, board games and film forums? At a superficial assessment, something like what we have called the family and social function of the wood-burning fireplace should not affect its size and structure: it does not. It might be a good idea, in this case, to equip it with a larger fireplace that can accommodate all your loved ones around it. How to choose the right model and what alternatives are there? Read on.

FIREPLACE IN THE LIVING ROOM: INSERT, HEARTH OR MONOBLOCK?

If you are looking for a wood-burning fireplace for your home, you will have heard of inserts, fireplaces and monoblocks. But which one is best suited to your needs? What are the differences?
Every home, every environment, has its own needs and we at La Nordica-Extraflame offer a suitable solution for each.

Our wood-burning inserts are designed to replace an old open fireplace and be installed in the existing space, thus giving new life to your old fireplace while retaining all the charm of a burning fire. In addition, thanks to their high performance in terms of power and emissions, they provide efficient and environmentally friendly heating for your home and also allow you to access the Conto Termico incentives. In fact, if you purchase a new biomass product to replace another domestic heating appliance, you can save up to 65% on your outlay.
Inserts, however, can also be the perfect solution for new installations.

Fireboxes are very similar to inserts, they always have a 'flag' door opening but in addition they have an important cast iron structure and a levelling support. They can therefore be used for new installations with dedicated cladding.

Lastly, monoblocks are chimneys with a concealed 'up and down' opening. They are adjustable in height and equipped with wheels to facilitate positioning. For these items, a dedicated cladding structure must always be provided for the generator.
